Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That means that YOU and I, every person you come in contact with, fall short of God's glory. Until Jesus Christ made a way. When Jesus laid down his life for our sins, he made a way for us to be saved, and have a chance to live eternally with Him in heaven. Don't get me wrong, we "Christians" are still sinners because NO ONE is perfect. We are human and still fail daily. Jesus paid our debt so that we could be set free!
Those of you who know me personally might already know this: My 8 yr old son came to me a week ago and was asking questions about Jesus being in your heart, and forgiving sins, etc. I did the best I could to answer what I could. If I didn't know something I was honest and told him I wasn't for sure but we could ask his Sunday school teacher. We talked a bit more and he said that he wanted Jesus to be his friend, and he was thinking about asking him into his heart but he just wasn't for sure about it. He wasn't for sure of what would happen afterwards. He didn't really have a full understanding of the concept.
I explained to him that he knows the difference from right and wrong and that Jesus would hold him accountable for his actions. I told him that all he had to do was ask for forgiveness (but that he REALLY had to mean it) and ask Jesus into his heart. He gave me a hug and kiss and went to bed. I immediately got online and started texting people asking them to pray about his decision. After all asking Jesus into your heart is literally THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION YOU WILL EVER MAKE!! You decide where you will spend eternity.
A few days later my son came up to me just after waking up and getting breakfast and told me these words:
"Mom, last night after you sent me to bed, I crept out of my bed and got down to pray. I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins and I invited him into my heart." My heart melted and jumped for joy, as tears streamed down my face, I grabbed my son and hugged him tightly, congratulating him for his decision and telling him how proud I am of him. After all this was a HUGE decision!!
So here is my challenge for you: If you already know Jesus as your personal Lord and savior I challenge you to dig deeper into God's word. Get involved in a study group with a friend, or maybe a small group at church. Read your bible daily, even if it's one chapter! A good place to start is the book of John. However you can start anywhere.
If you don't already know Jesus as your Lord and savior I URGE you to get to know him. Pick up a bible and read it. Repent, pray and ask Jesus to be your Lord and savior.
I have heard time and time again "Jesus won't forgive me for all the wrong I've done. If only you knew what I've done....., or I've done so much wrong, it's unforgivable...." I'm here to tell you there is NOTHING too big or too small for God to handle, and there is NOTHING you could do that he hasn't already forgiven when he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for you. Jesus' blood paid the price for your sins, my sins, your neighbors sins, your spouse, and kids, your friends, etc....
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Friend this is THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION YOU WILL EVER MAKE IN YOUR LIFE! Don't make it lightly! I promise it will be the best decision you have ever made. When you walk with Jesus you are never alone. He is with you through every storm life throws our way. He helps fight every battle. I'll let you in on a little secret..... In The End Jesus WINS!!!
God bless and if I can pray for you in any way don't hesitate to contact me. firstname.lastname@example.org
