Ways to save money

We all want to save money. Sad thing is some of us try but don't understand how to save. Some of us think we can't afford to save. I've heard the well my husband works and I stay home and on our budget we just can't afford to save money. Bologna!

For years I was the same way. I felt like there was never enough money, and how in the world was I going to get what we needed with our small budget? I learned over the years how to coupon. I have changed many times my strategy on how to coupon as I am learning new things all the time.

First and foremost couponing can save you money if you do it right. Don't buy something just because you have a coupon for it. Don't buy something you're not going to use unless you're donating it.  I say find a way that works for you and stick to it. Not everybody has the same method, and something that works for me might not work for you. However the idea is the same- Stock up when an item is on sale and you have a coupon to match. If you have a smart phone you can further your savings with apps like ibotta, checkout 51, and more.

Menu planning- Believe it or not menu planning can save you money. When you have a plan you are less likely to give into fast food, or make multiple trips to the grocery store to pick up items for a meal. Items that may or may not be on sale at the time.  There are many free printable menu planners online, you can find a ton of ideas on , you can write it in a notebook, or a daily planner, there are apps that help you menu plan, or even buy a dry erase board to post for your family to see what's for dinner. You can do weekly or a whole month at a time. I have done both and personally I find that weekly menu planning works best for my family.

I have never considered myself a V8 person. I'd rather eat my veggies. However when I had the opportunity to try it for free through BzzAgent I decided to give it a go. I quickly found out that V8 is not only veggies, but fruits as well. YAY!

I tried the Pomegranate Blueberry. I was a bit nervous because I normally don't care for blueberry flavored drinks. I also had NEVER tried anything with pomegranate. Much to my surprise it tastes amazing! And it REALLY gives you energy!!! Win Win!

How technology has affected us

We see it all around. People walking down the street with cell phone in hand. People driving and talking or texting. I have even heard of people on facebook while driving. Human interaction has totally changed forever. We sit in the same room and text each other, or totally ignore each other, because we are too busy playing on our phones, or playing video games. We lose sleep because we are laying in bed playing on our phones. (shamefully raising hand)

We don't write letters we send e-mails, we can pay bills, check our bank account balances, update facebook and twitter, pin new ideas on pinterest. (I could lose hours of sleep doing this and usually do )and now we can do it from our smart phones. We can download the latest app or game, or read a book with our kindle app.  We have instant mobile gratification right in the palm of our hand.

Video games are becoming so addictive and people aren't exercising as much. I've even read about people gaming for days and forming blood clots from sitting for so long. One person even died because the blood clot went to his heart. Scary!

Kids are playing violent video games and thinking they can do those things in real life and have no consequences. It's sad! Kids today don't know right from wrong like we did, because their parents are too busy playing video games, and texting. They sit behind computer screens and yell at their kids, or ignore them all together.

I realize that NOT all parents are like this, so please don't start sending me hate mail. In reality, our world has changed forever because of all of the technology. I beg of you to please limit yours and your child's screen time. Whether it is video games, t.v., cell phones, etc..... Spend quality time with your kids. Teach them about the fun things you use to do as a kid. Maybe even unplug and have a no tech day or weekend if you dare!

Some things you may or may not know about me

I thought it would be fun to write a post about myself. I like to get to know my readers, and when I read other blogs I like to get to know more about them. So here it is, a list of things you may or may not know about me.

  • I can play a few songs on keyboard, but I can't read sheet music.
  • I used to write songs and poetry.
  • I am a very shy person and sometimes people think I am rude because I don't say much. I promise I'm just shy. Ask my friends, they can't shut me up!
  • My favorite color is pink. When I was little I hated pink.
  • I am a girly girl, but I have a tomboy side too.
  • I am NOT afraid to get dirty. I actually helped take apart a car engine, and then helped put it back together.
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE to organize! When everything is neat and organized I feel accomplished.
  • I can't stand bugs or snakes. (Those of you who know me personally know all about the garter snake flip out I recently had.)
  • My constant prayer is to have all of my friends and family saved. When I go to Heaven I want to know I will see you all again.
  • My fear is when I am old and my time has come to leave this world, that I will just be another funeral. I want to make a difference, I want to leave a legacy. I want to inspire someone. I want to help others.
  • I would LOVE to spend a day with professional storm chasers and chase a tornado.
  • At times I don't feel "good enough".
  • I get grouchy without my caffeine.
  • If I could have a conversation with any person dead or alive I would choose my grandma. I miss her dearly. When she died I felt like a part of me was missing.
Now that I have shared some things about myself that you may not have already known, I invite you to share something about yourself that not everyone knows. If you don't want to comment on this post, you can e-mail me at
